Corning, New York, known as the 'Crystal City,' has been at the forefront of glass innovation for over 150 years. This tradition continues today in the Gaffer District, where master artisans transform molten glass into breathtaking works of art.

Walking down Market Street, you can often catch the glow of a furnace through a studio window. Glass blowing is an intense, physical process that requires years of practice, precise timing, and a deep understanding of the medium's properties.

We sat down with local gaffer, James Sterling, to discuss his passion for the craft. 'Glass is a living thing when it's hot,' he says. 'You're dancing with it. You have to respect it, or it will let you know.'

Visitors can experience this magic firsthand at several studios in the district, many of which offer live demonstrations and 'Make Your Own Glass' sessions. It's an immersive way to connect with Corning's unique heritage.
